Helping students of A Course in Miracles understand the practicality of its often otherworldly and metaphysical ideas, while also helping them discover the miraculous in the so-called ordinary, simple, and everyday.
Our blog name, “Practical Miracles,” might seem like an oxymoron. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, “practical” means “of, relating to, or manifested in practice or action : not theoretical or ideal; capable of being put to use.” And, miracles, at least as traditionally understood, are certainly not commonly practiced or put to use. Most people would categorize them as “impractical.” Miracles might have been common place in Biblical days, but, in these modern times, they are extremely rare, even non-existent.
However, a miracle as understood in the Course is indeed very practical. Miracle Principle 15 begins, “Each day should be devoted to miracles” [CE T-1.15.1:1]. A few sentences later we are instructed, “You should begin each day with the prayer ‘Help me to perform whatever miracles you want of me today’” [CE T-1.15.2:4]. Understood this way, miracles are extraordinary and deeply healing on the one hand, while appearing quite ordinary, simple, and everyday on the other.
Through our writings we aim to support students of the Course as they “walk the walk” — knowing that it is by walking the path of the Course every day that we reach our goal. We support students as they seek to better understand the philosophical and metaphysical ideas and teachings of the Course and to better use and apply those ideas and teachings in specific and practical ways. Many who faithfully walk this path discover that life does become truly miraculous.
